This was a good entertaining music-themed mystery to get cozy with! It is the second book by this author I have read. You don't need to know operas to enjoy it - but I suspect that if you do, you will have even more of a sense of familiarity with the main character than I did. With settings that cross Canada, biker gangs, on to Paris, and opera in the background there is lots of "stuff" to keep you interested. I recommend this book for those times when you want to kick back, escape and be entertained. I would look for more books from this author, because his music related themes definitely appeal to me. The one I read years ago involved a lost manuscript. I found it totally intriguing.

This book was a great read and I love the twists that I didn't see coming. Would recommend this to anyone.
Rick Blechta's done it again, with his latest novel, The Fallen One. Without giving away any of the good stuff, this consistently excellent writing includes his typically hair-raising plot twists, superbly believable dialogue, and spot-on classical musical knowledge. Very much a page turner, you'll be glued to your chair. Buy this book - for yourself and all of your crime-novel and music-loving friends. You won't be disappointed. This is a great novel on so many levels. Though a bit early to think about it, holiday shopping - done!
Rick Blechta's latest mystery novel, The Fallen One, is another exciting read. Once you meet fragile but courageous opera singer Marta Hendriks and her eclectic collection of friends and colleagues, you will not want to say goodbye to them. Rick kept me guessing right up to the finale.

As a novelist and classical/jazz musician Rick takes his readers on an authentic backstage tour of the not-always-glamorous world of opera and its stars. He also takes you to what appear to be his favourite hangouts in Paris, Toronto and Montreal. The details ring true.

I highly recommend The Fallen One to you and hope you enjoy reading this mystery with a musical twist as much as I did. I give it 5 stars.
First book I read by this author. Lots of twists and turns, entertaining. Made my flight and wait time quite enjoyable.
Recently discovered Rick Blechta's stories and really enjoy his twisted plots. His short stories are really good as well and either long or short mysteries make for an enjoyable read.
